Last month I contacted model Michelle Green and asked her if she wanted to do a photo shoot together. When she agreed, I immediately contacted some of my favorite stylists who I knew would do a great job and bring another level of creativity to the shoot. I got Scott Provo (PROVOcative Hair Styling) for hair, Yessie Libby for makeup, and Jordan Perchlik for wardrobe. Then I called up a good friend of mine Rocky Salskov who graciously let us use his studio. A few minutes into the shoot I realized We should probably get some behind the scenes video (because……. why not?), so my good friend Amanda McCracken pulled out her point and shoot and got to pointing and shooting.
So a few months ago I decided to play a bit with the video side of things. I haven’t done video since 2006 so I thought it would be fun to try it again. The shoot was with an old friend of mine, Renelle. She is a cellist and a pretty damn good one too. here it is!
I had a great shoot with model Kimberly this last Saturday. Kimberly was a really great model who had a lot to offer the shoot. She was really professional and fun and new her poses really well. And as a plus she was able to keep the flow going even though some of the ideas I had might have been tricky to pull off. I got some great images for my book and I think that she might use them in her book also.
I have been dying to try out the huge 78″ hensel umbrella for a while now and this was a perfect opportunity to do so. The quality of the light is really really soft, but specular and direct at the same time. So in order to add a bit more contrast to the picture I added a 22″ speedotron beauty dish (on a separate light) inside the umbrella facing the model. The beauty dish was at about 2 or3 o’clock in the umbrella (at least for the initial set up). Through the shoot I finessed the light a bit but it stayed pretty much the same the whole time. Below is a diagram of what the set up pretty much looked like.
All in all it was an awesome shoot and I look forward to working with kimberly and this kind of set up again.
So its 2010, a new year and a new website to match. I have been back and forth about what to do and how to do it in regards to my website. Before i go any further I must say that I am a photographer(a broke one) and I am NOT a web designer. So far I have built all my own websites and it has saved me a huge chunk of change. However I think that because of this I may have lost out on making a huge chunk of change. Again I am not a web designer and therefore I do not posses the technical proficiency or the coding know how to create a clean, pro looking website.
So my troubles began with creating a layout which, through the magic of youtube tutorials, I was able to build in photoshop then slice and export to dreamweaver.
I had no problem making templates, adding css style sheets, div tags, and adding content to the layout thanks to both this tutorial :
But then it came to my images. This has been the most challenging part of my whole website building process since I got server space almost three years ago. But thanks to a little research and a great program called SimpleViewer I was finally able to have great looking galleries that I could create in photoshop (you cane use simpleviewer’s plugins for other programs as well) and embed in an html file. with a few simple lines of code and a couple of minutes changing values in an .xmp file.
So hopefully this will become a regular occurrence, blogging that is. I suppose this a bit late, but I need to keep up with the times. Well lets talk about what the goal of this blog is. The purpose of this is to give updates on my life, more specifically my work, and to talk about issues that I think are pertinent to the area of the arts and photography.
Well lets get started!
First off, I have been d
oing work for a Model/Talent agency (Kurzweil Talent Agency) that is new to Seattle and I have been able to work with some great models, especially for being new to the industry.
Here are some pics.!
This one is of Adam, and it was the first shoot I did for KTA
And This is a shot of Alysha I did for the same agency.
